  4. Which merchants should I approach to be Partner Merchants?
Anyone who accepts payments is a potential eCosway Partner Merchant. The following list describes "preferred" candidates:

    • Medical / Specialist centers

    • Established entertainment outlets

    • Hotels / Resorts

    • Chain Stores

    • Established Restaurants

    • Established Retail Businesses

    • Hypermarkets / Supermarkets / Departmental Stores

  5. Can I approach the Merchants who sell vouchers on the eCosway website?
No. Do not approach these merchants. These are already house accounts and our internal staff is working on converting them to the credit card program. Back to top

  6. How much margin should I ask for?
We would like for every Partner Merchant to give us 10%, but we also know that some merchants cannot afford this amount due to the dynamics of their industries. You need to negotiate for the best possible margin. Go ahead and submit an application with less than 10% on it, but please understand that if we realize that the percentage is too low for the industry, it might not be accepted until the percentage is acceptable. Back to top

  7. What if a merchant can give more than 10%?
Go ahead and write it on the contract, but only 10% will automatically be used as eV. The rest of the percentage will be discussed with the merchant and used as discounts or promotion. For example, if a merchant can give 30%, we could offer the standard 1.19 eV plus a 20% discount at the point of sale. There are many possible promotion combinations that will keep things exciting. The exact details of the promotions will be discussed between the merchant and eCosway staff. Back to top

  8. What if the potential Partner Merchant can give 10% on normal items, but not sale items?
The credit card machine cannot distinguish between a normal item and a sale item. However, we are working on a solution to this problem and will let you know if we work something out. In the meantime, point out that it is a bit of a trade-off for the merchant. The merchant gets increased business which increases profits, so they should be willing to pay us on sale items as well as normal purchases. Back to top

  9. Is there a joining fee or monthly fee for potential Partner Merchants?
There is no fee to join, and no monthly fees charged by eCosway. The only thing that eCosway asks for is the agreed upon commission that is collected by eCosway on every sale made to customers who use the eCosway Co-Branded Card. If there are any charges over and above that, they would come from the bank side regarding the merchant account or use of a credit card terminal. Do not get into discussion about these charges with the merchant because the charges can vary greatly, depending on total monthly transactions and the merchant's negotiation with the bank. Just tell the merchant that there are no charges from eCosway, and all we need to know at this point in time, is what percentage they are willing to give us. The contract will not go into effect if they do not work out an acceptable arrangement with Baiduri Bank. Back to top

  10. Is there any charge to cancel the contract?
The contract lasts for one year and is automatically renewed unless cancelled by either party. The merchant must give 3 months notice to cancel the agreement. If the agreement is cancelled before 1 year has passed, the merchant will be charged up to BND 500 - based on actual costs incurred by eCosway. Back to top

  11. How will I be protected from another Business Owner (BO) trying to switch my merchant to his or her BO ID after I have already turned in the contract?
Every contract that comes to us will be stamped with the date and time of receipt. If more than one contract comes in from the same merchant, the first one we received will prevail. Once a contract has gone into effect, a merchant is locked to the original BO ID as follows: If the merchant chooses to cancel the contract with eCosway (giving the stipulated 3 months notice) he or she can do so, but if they rejoin as a partner merchant within two years from the cancellation date, the prior Introducer BO ID number will continue to be recognized as the Merchant BO in the new agreement. 12. What if the potential Partner Merchant doesn’t currently accept credit cards?
Submit the application anyway. Baiduri Bank will talk to them about setting up a merchant account. Back to top

  13. Does the potential Partner Merchant have to switch their merchant account to Baiduri?
Yes. Baiduri needs to be the merchant bank on all eCosway transactions, which can be achieved in several ways:

    • Baiduri can take over from the existing merchant bank if they offer the merchant similar or better terms;

    • Baiduri can place another machine in the merchant's establishment.

There are many possibilities that will be worked out between Baiduri and the Merchant. Once the application is accepted by eCosway, a Baiduri Bank representative will contact the merchant to discuss the best arrangement. You do not need to get into lengthy discussions with Merchants over this. Just tell them the only thing you need from them is a commission percentage for eCosway, Baiduri will talk to them about the rest. Back to top

  14. Why isn't Cosway or eCosway considered a "Partner Merchant"?
The whole point of having partner merchants is for them to give us a small part of their profit margin so that we can translate that "commission" into eV. This effectively turns any product into an "eCosway product". Cosway and eCosway already give the maximum possible eV on each product (much more than a partner merchant could). The best thing for eCosway Business Owners, is for Cosway and eCosway NOT to be considered partner merchants because we would lose the bank's percentage (When a transaction is done at a partner merchant's establishment, we waive the percentage that the bank normally has to give us). By keeping our eV system the way we have already designed it, whenever you use your eCosway/Baiduri card at Cosway and eCosway, you get maximum eV from the company PLUS you get the eV given by the bank on non-partner merchants. Back to top

  15. Why don't you give 2 CVPs per BND 50 at Cosway and eCosway?
Since eCosway and Cosway are not considered Partner Merchants, we cannot give two Card Value Points because the system will not be able to differentiate. Besides, you already get VPs when you spend online and Redemption Coupons when you spend offline. The CVPs you get from using your credit card are extra. Back to top
